    Posted: 01 Aug 2016 at 1:14am
Hello,

I'm trying to use parameters to select certain individuals.

I've got a solution at the moment of using the employee number as a static parameter (unfortunately the employee number is a alphanumeric field and so cannot be sorted in the list numerically - hence 1, 10, 11, etc. rather than 1, 2, 3), however to make the report more user friendly I would love to be able to use a dynamic parameter based on employees names.

I have tried using Surname, however obviously if there is more than one employee with the surname I get all of them.

I have tried to use cascading parameters, with a second level filter of the forename, but don't quite seem to be able to get this to work as I need to be able to select multiple employees.

Does anyone care to shed any light on this?

If you are using a command for the report.  You can use a second command for a dynamic parameter (trying to remember where I read this).  Anyhow that allows you a lot of flexibility to create a parameter more suited to your needs.  FYI: At least one of the Crystal viewers do not seem to like this setup.  Unfortunately I do not know when version it is (supplied in an a vendor application).

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I have to design around a very basic Crystal viewer, so I'm not sure this solution would work.
