Is there a work around or a solution to getting the papersource to change?  I am trying to set it at runtime and the printer insists on using the auto selected drawer.

It can be done by writing an application external to the report, but I don't think it can happen by only using Crystal Reports.

Have you looked at my book in chapter 18 on web services? I go into modifying object properties in that chapter and also give code samples. Since you are working with the printer it can get tricky. I don't talk about the printer specifically, but the code samples and explanations should tell you everything you need to know so that you can modify them.
