    Posted: 13 Jun 2009 at 7:40am
Hi,

I have created a report with a graphic in it which, on the bottom x axes the group names are rather long - so I need for them to be Landscape or semi-vertical as the reports often show them. However, I do not know how to make this happen and all the bars (it is a bar report) lables run together. So...I wonder if any knows how to get the lables to go "up-and-down" or slanted, rather than horizontal.

Thanks MM

Left click label to activate the field.

Right click it and select "Format Axis Label".
In the rotation option select "90".

Thanks for replying..

...however, as far as I can see the "label" is part of the chart. That is, if I click on it only the chart is highlighted (not like a label that you add manually to the report). Thus, I can't get at it that way to set it to 90 degrees. I think it must have to be settable in the chart wizard or via some other screen?

Some way to set the group lables of the x axis of the chart to be vertica? So as not to run together when too long.

Thanks

Is it a sub-report?

Or are you trying to do this in preview mode on a drill down?
Try it in Design mode.

it is a bar chart I added to Header C via the Chart Expert. So it just shows up in "Main Report" view as an "example" of the report...so not sure how to set the axis of the x axis lables ? which when executed all run together as they are too long..thus needing to set the lables to be vertical...which is was doing for a while, then stopped, and I do not know how to get it back....???...

thanks for your help...

Using Crystal XI... In preview mode click on the chart once to select it. The lines around the chart will turn Blue.

Now click once on the x axis. It should make a little box made of squares appear around it. Now while pointing at it right click once and select Format Axis Labels. there should be a Rotation field.Change it to 90 (or 45).
You can also try just making the entire chart field taller. I have seen bar charts change the text rotation to expand the actual bar fields. If you give the entire chart more real estate it may revert back to the 45 or 90 automatically.

Thanks...but, I can click on the chart and it goes blue on the edges but it does not allow me to select anything in the chart (maybe I am using too old of a version fo CR?...I am using what came with Visual Studio 2005...)

Hmmm, not sure what version that would be.
Go into preview mode and keep expanding the height of the chart by dragging the base down a little and letting it redraw itself to see if you can get the fields to convert back to at least 45 degrees.
Also you may try and use a formula to get a shortened name in the chart.
