I have designed a report with a number of subreports.  When a subreport prints, it is enclosed in a box.  Is there a way to not display the box?

Yes ...  Click inside your subreport, and right click. Format - then remove the box, or remove the lines.

Not a problem ... I don't have a ton of experience with CRs myself, and everything I've learned has been the hard way.  So, if there's ever a chance for me to help someone else, I am glad to do it!  Good luck!
