I have created a crystal report and grouped it accordingly. The results of this grouping appear as follows in GF#3 on the resulting report:

ITEM DESCRIPTION          ITEM        QTY SOLD

ANA SILT GREY 10        05B00001        10

ANA SILT GREY 11        05B00002        1

ANA SILT GREY 12        05B00003        5

ANA SILT GREY 13        05B00004        25

ASTRID III WHITE 10     05B10001        15

ASTRID III WHITE 11     05B10002        11

ASTRID III WHITE 12     05B10003        12

ASTRID III WHITE 13     05B10004        3

Bearing in mind that each of the results listed above have already been subtotaled at the detail level to produce these results in the Group #3 footer section. We want to go a step further. We now with the information above want to subtotal the items on a change of the item description first 10 characters. Therefore to look something like this:

ITEM DESCRIPTION          ITEM        QTY SOLD

ANA SILT GREY 10        05B00001        10

ANA SILT GREY 11        05B00002        1

ANA SILT GREY 12        05B00003        5

ANA SILT GREY 13        05B00004        25

SUB TOTAL BY STYLE                          41

ASTRID III WHITE 10     05B10001        15

ASTRID III WHITE 11     05B10002        11

ASTRID III WHITE 12     05B10003        12

ASTRID III WHITE 13     05B10004        3

SUB TOTAL BY STYLE                          41

Not sure how to do this based on the fact that the original layout shown has already been subtotaled. Hence, can you subtotal a subtotal for lack of a better word.

Thanks in advance for any information posted.

create a group using a formula to grab the left 10 characters and place it above (group 1) the current group (make it group 2).
do a sum on that group footer
left(field,10)
