Hi, why would special field "page N of M" show 1 of 1 pages on every page, when it should be 1 of 60, 2 of 60, etc.   i am really confused, this has never happened before.

Where have you put the page number formula? I.e. which section?

in the page footer section

What is being displayed in the report; are you using the details section to display data or are you using subreports in a different section(s)?

Is the page number showing as '1 of 1' on every page or only on one/a selection of pages and nothing on the rest?

This will be quite difficult to diagnose without seeing the report but I can keep asking questions and offering suggestions to try and help pin it down.

it's a pretty straightforward report. just has a report header, page header, details, report footer and page footer. no sub-assemblies.

Have you tried deconstructing the report bit-by-bit to see if it fixes it?

it says 1 of 1 on every single page.   i'm not sure what you mean about deconstructing?

It sounds like the report doesn't know how many pages you have so it reverts everything to 1 of 1.

By deconstruct I mean try creating the report again, bit by bit, and see when the page numbers stop working. If it's a simple report it hopefully shouldn't take too long to remake but might give you an indication of what's causing the problem.

Report footer is above page footer, could that be the problem and if so, is there an easy way to switch them?

No that's how it should be - as long as you don't have any data in the Report Footer then it shouldn't be causing an issue.

Can you share the .rpt file?

If you have not already dione so, open the section expert
work your way through each section and make sure that "Reset page number after" is not checked on any section and that none of them have a condditional formua to activate that function.
Given your description the Detail section is the most likely location that this is being set at.
