I am trying to get a report that shows me a user number, date started, product name, and product date started.

I am getting repeated data.  For example:

1 user can have 4 products. each product will have a different name and date on the system.  In my report the count of products is OK, the product date is OK, but the names all repeat.    I'm not finding what I need to adjust.

this is your data set. If you are using multiple tables your joins are creating multiple rows.
sometimes this is expected and people use suppression or grouping options to limit what data is displayed.

Totally spot on.  Got it figured out about 10 minutes ago!
Joins were bad.
