Subject: Crystal Reports eBooks now online!

I've had a lot of requests from users to put my Crystal Reports books online (especially from international members who can't get the books locally). I finally decided to do it, but with a twist. Rather than just publish the books as a static PDF, I converted them to a blog format so that we can build a new community of 'Crystal Reports Fanatics' who want to learn Crystal Reports and discuss their ideas with other members.I posted the ebooks at http://www.crystalreportsonlinetraining.com/ - http://members.crystalreportsonlinetraining.com/
Here is how it works:
  • All my books are now located in one site.
  • The books are posted in a blog format and each chapter is broken up into 5-10 posts.
  • Each post has its own comment section so that you can ask questions about the content as well as discuss it with other members.
  • I check the posts regularly to make sure everyone is understanding the material and to keep the discussions active.
  • I also look for suggestions about new material you want to read. I'll
update the chapters with new content that will appeal to everyone as
well as make any corrections you find.
As an added bonus, I'm posting the chapters to my new book (CR.NET 2005/2008) as I write them! This lets you read it months before you can buy the books from the bookstores. Plus, you can tell me what else you want me to write about. It's as if you get to customize the book to make sure that it meets your needs. I don't think any author has done this before and I'm very excited about it!If you want to read all my eBooks online and be part of the new community, click here: http://members.crystalreportsbook.com/ - Crystal Reports eBooks

Brian,
I ordered your e-books yesterday, but I don't see where I go to actually view them.  Can you help?

Thanks,
Darin Doubrava

Would you please allowing eBooks access to those who purchased the book? The purpose is to contribute to and benefit from the discussions on the selected chapters of Encyclopedia.

Yes, I agree that it's good to discuss the books online. That is why I make the forums free for everyone on the web. You can discuss the book or ask any questions you have as you work with Crystal Reports. The eBook section gives you online access to all the books I've written in one place and thus I've set them aside in a premier section.

Hi Brian,
I pre-ordered your book "Crystal Reports Encyclopedia Volume 2: Programming .NET 2005" on Amazon about a month ago.  It shows a publication date of May 1st.  Just wondering if you know when they will begin shipping?

Thanks,
E

Unfortunately, it's going to be a few more months before I can publish it. My schedule has been so crazy and I have only a small amount of time to work on it. I'm going to an SAP Developers Competition next week and I'm prepping for that by studying how the Crystal Reports data integration works with SAP. Once I get back from there, I'll get back to the book.

Sorry.

I am interested in the eBooks.  Is it $24.95 for every 90 days?

Yes, that is correct. I post new chapters as I write them to keep the  content current. I currently have a couple new chapters for the .NET 2008 book that I'll be uploading this weekend.

I use PayPal, but they have a link on the sign-up page that you can click if you just want to enter a credit card number and not get a PayPal account.

If we forget our User ID for the books site, is there any way to have it emailed to us?

Thanks!

I just realized that there isn't a 'forgot password' link. Oops! I'll have to correct that. Thanks for pointing it out Dell!

does it state how i can undo the automatic generation of comma whenever i'm dealing with numbers in the text label?

Yes, but to turn off commas, just click on the field you want to modify and then look at the toolbar at the top. On the right hand side is a button with a picture of a comma. Click on this and it turns off commas.

To do more advanced formatting, you can right-click on the field and select the Format option. This opens the Format Editor dialog box. Click on the Number tab to customize how the number will be printed.

If you want to set the default format for all number fields, you can go to the File menu and select Options (NOT Report Options!) Go to the Fields tab, click on the Number button, and on the Number tab you can set your default format.

This won't affect any existing fields on reports but will affect any new reports and any new fields that you put on existing reports.

Is there any option to purchase copy of ebook in way that they will be available as offline pdf copy ?
I'm intrested in buying your .net programming book.
currently thinking of getting the hard-copy, but problem is the shipping is long to my country.
The 24$ for 3 month is nice, but i need this at my work and i cant access the internet from there.

Thanks for your interest in my book! Unfortunately I've have found people posting duplicate copies of my book in PDF form on the web. So I can only offer it online. Sorry.

CE 8.5 - Acrobat Reader 5.0 is installed on the server.

From ePortfolio ViewOnDemand report opens fine in Crystal Viewer, and can EXPORT fine to Word, Excel, RTF.

When I try to EXPORT to PDF I get the following error...

Error encountered by Crystal PageServer
The export format 'u2fpdf:0' is not supported. [On Cache/Page Server: servername.pageserver]

If I SCHEDULE the report to Acrobat format, the instance fails and I get the following error...

Error detected by export DLL: . File C:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\Shared\Temp\procSched\SHQEIHCEDEV.report\~tmp106432498660940.rpt.

Anyone seen this before?

Thanks in advance...
