This is only my second day of using Crystal Reports!

I am trying to create a report totalled by two groups, but do not seem to be able to add a subgroup.

What I am aiming for is:

Appeal
       Package name               Total per package
Appeal name                         Total of all packages within the appeal

Total                                      Total of all appeals

I have sorted by appeal and package, and can get the totals of each appeal, but cannot report on the packages within them.

Please can someone give me some advice.

You try create the total per package using "Running Total Field" function. Then put as below:-

Field to summarize:packages of each appeal

Type of summary: sum

Evaluate

-For each record

Reset

-On change of group: appeal group

Then click "Ok".

Hopefully it works for you. Is just roughly my understanding on the problem that you encountered.

What you are suggesting sounds like a pretty classic sub-group.  Have you gone into the Group Expert, and simply added "package" as a new group?  That should be the solution.

I also highly recommend you get Brian's books.  As they are now available in PDF, you don't even have to wait for shipping!  He has some excellent advice on handling grouping, both for basic scenarios like yours and for more complex structures.

Thank you.

I managed it yesterday afternoon after quite a bit of trial and error!

The total count of my Crystal Reports is now 7.  It will certainly save time at month end, although there will still be a bit of tweaking to do in Excel, but I am able to add them as custom reports to The Raiser's Edge, so other people will also be able to run them.
