Hi all!
is there a way to restrict editing for a specific report (written using CR 9) so that the user can run but not modify the report?
Also, if the user trys to modify the report, is it possible to launch a pop-up message informing him that  modifying the report is not allowed?
Thanks so much
rick

Making a report, section, area, or object read-only documentationie.css -
To make a report read-only
  1. - File menu, select - Report Options.
  2. - Read-only.
On the Report menu, select Section Expert.
  • Select the section or area that you want to make read-only.
  • On the Common tab, select Read-only.

Note:    When a section is read-only, you can move it, cut it, and delete it, but you cannot make changes within the section. When an area is read-only, all sections in the area are read-only; therefore, you cannot insert another section, nor can you move, cut, or delete an existing section.

  • To make an object read-only
    1. Right-click the object you want to make read-only.
    2. On the shortcut menu, click Format Field.

The Format Editor dialog box appears.

    3. On the Common tab, select Read-only.

Thanks for your suggestion. I thought about that too, however the user can still uncheck the "read-only" checkbox and make the changes.
I'm dealing with "regulated" reports that cannot be edited at all.
Our current applications are using encapsulation but we still have old vb apps where these rpt files are still editable. Any other suggestion?

Unfortunately, AntDC gave all the options available. CR doesn't have the capability you are looking for built into the application.

Thank you very much Brian. I just needed to make sure that there were no other options before saying "not possible" to my boss. Thanks again for all your help.

I suppose you could create a service application to constantly keep a look out for that options window and close it when ever it appears.

    That is dirty though :)
