Quote Michele Replybullet Topic: Report headings shifting when add custom

Every time I edit the Column heading text/name, and export the report as excel data only (or schedule it to run and save as that format), the whole column headings shift. Has anyone encountered that, and how do I get it to stop without using the original column name?

Column heading should be:

PID Last First Middle Category ID BB_ID(custom) PID Status
1   Smith Joe D       Staff      123 123                  1        Active

But what I'm seeing when I export or run scheduled report to excel data format is this:
(export, Microsoft Excel (97-2003) Data only, Destination disk file, Typical Excel Format)

(shifted headings)               BBID(custom) PID Last First Middle Category ID PID Status
1   Smith Joe D       Staff    123          123        1   Active

(No data under Middle heading and over)

It looks like everything is shifting to after the custom header, pushing all other headers over to after the custom header. Data is not lining up correctly under it, with the PID showing up as Last name.

Any ideas how to fix it? I'm pulling in duplicate headings and it's from different tables and we're looking for mis-matches, so they are not always expected to match, which is the purpose of the report. How do I get custom headings to not shift the headings and data? I need to label headings as custom so the report user knows what table/screen to fix the data in.

Crystal Reports says it's 2008 version, 12.6.0.1596.

The main thing that you have to do when exporting to Excel is to line up headings and columns and make them the same width.  There are some options when exporting to Excel as far as how it determines the column width (Whole, Report, Report Header, Page Header, etc.), you can try that option also.

Where is that option? I made sure I chose left justify for the headings and field data in the report design.

The headings and fields below them look like they are the same width to me.

I deleted and re-added a heading I wasn't sure about but it still is re-arranging the headings over the data.

The BB ID header was a little higher so I deleted it and put it in again with the custom name and it looks like exported data is showing up under the heading right now. Thanks!!!

The option is when you export to Excel.
