What are the ways that allow us to edit the output report in preview mode before printing? These changes only affect the presentation of the report but will not affect the design.

Hmmm, I'm not sure what types of changes you are thinking of. When you modify a report in preview mode it makes changes to the report's design. If you move any objects or change the visual aspects of an object (font, etc.) then this is effecting the report design. Can you give more detail about what types of changes might not effect design?
