I have several reports that use a particular DB view. I would like to rename the view. Is there a way to have crystal switch to use the new view name?

Yes, but it's a tad tedious.

If you go into Database Expert on each report, you can go into Set Datasource Location.  You will then be able to point the report to the new view.

Here's the tricky thing, though.  All of the elements of the report will still look like they are pointing at the old view.  When you look in the Field Explorer, the old view's name is there.  When you reference the fields in formulas, you use the old view name.  It's like Crystal kept the old name as an alias.  Presumably, this is to keep references in formulas and the like from breaking.  Why Crystal thinks this is easier than doing a global find and replace is beyond me.

In the Database Expert, you can r-click on the 'view name' in the right pane and change it to something else.

What you see as the 'view name' is an arbitrary name. It was initilized to the name of the view you originally choose, but you can rename it to anything in the Database Expert.

In Set Datasource Location, you can see the real name of the underlying view/table. Expand the datasource tree you see in the top pane and you will see the underlying Table name. That's the real name of the view. If you use Set Datasource Location to point to a different view, the Table name will  change, but not the 'view name.'

There was just a discussion of this here.

Make sense?
