Quote rbrown Replybullet Topic: Report Data Missing
    Posted: 14 May 2007 at 8:48am
I'm a new user to Crystal Reports and I'm using v 10. Our manufacturing/finance software is Orders Plus/Sage Business Works. A secure data folder was created to automatically update each morning at 6:30 a.m. and dbf files are created.

I used the new report wizard, pointed to the dbf files in the secure data folder, reviewed each data field to ensure that the correct data was there and once I hit finished the report was created. I did receive a message about joining tables or something and that I couldn't use any SQL expressions on the report and all sorting (I think) couldn't be done on the server side.

When I review the data in each field on the report by right-clicking then it shows me a sample list of real data. However, when I preview the report then nothing shows up. I even verified the database integrity and refreshed the database and everything checked out fine but still nothing on the report. Any help would ge greatly appreciated.

How are your tables linked together?  The automatic "Smart Linking" isn't always so smart.  It will set up links based on matching field names and sometimes it makes too many of them, like linking on a Last_Change_Date field.

Brian has most (if not all) of his Crystal book online on this site (you can get to it from the home page).  That would be a good place for you to start learning about how to use Crystal.

I actually used the Smart Link feature but I did look at how it was linking tables. I wonder if I unlinked everything and then only linked what I needed if that would help. The strange thing is that data shows up when I choose Show Field Data but nothing appears on the report.

I'll look for Brian's book to begin learning this great program.

Thanks,

Richard

Re-linking might help - you also may want to check the order in which your tables a linked together.

Also, do you have any situation where you might have data in one table but not in the table it's linked to?  In that case you need to right-click on the link, go to Join Options, and set it to a left outer join if the link goes from left to right or right outer if it goes the other direction.  This will get you all of the data even when there is no corresponding data in a linked table.

Dell,

Thank you very much. I'll try all those tips because I know the data exists in the tables since I brought them into Access and all the information is in them.

Thanks,

Richard

I just wanted to let you know that clearing all the links and setting them by myself is definitely flowing in data now on the report. It's very slow however but I'm not sure if that is due to running on my PC compared to on our server but I can always install Crystal on the server so all the db queries can be done there and faster. Thank you for your help. I'm sure I'll have more questions but I have some reading to do first. Smile
