    Posted: 10 Nov 2009 at 10:52am
I am using some Access tables to build a summary and detail status report.  The summary report includes the project name, target date, project manager, etc.  The detail report includes more detail about each project.

I have the summary report included in the detail report as a subreport.  All is well.  Now I want to establish a hyperlink such that when I click on the project name in the summary report the user will be taken to the detail report of that project.

I can't seem to get this to work.  Any suggestions?

In the main report insert a subreport. Choose existing report as your detail report.
Make it an on demand report.
Link your main report to your sub report on the project name.

In them main report if you are grouping on the project name place the subreport on the group header or footer.
If no grouping place it on the details.
You cannot have it say the Name of the Project but rename it to say something like "View Project Details" and underline it and make it blue ink. Looks like a hyperlink that way.

That worked - thank you!  Now, is there a way to get back from the subreport to the summary report?  I've tried a hyperlink but it doesn't seem to work.

Thanks again!

You just close that sub-report window.
The Main report never closes behind it.
it ends up being an issue of trining the end users how to use the viewer correctly.

The user that needs this report does not use Crystal.  She needs it in Word or Text Format.  I notice the links to not work when the report is exported.  What is the best way to make the report available to a non-Crystal user?  I have a programming background but I am new to Crystal reports.  I went to Crystal when I couldn't get Access to export to Word and retain the formatting.  I also notice that Crystal exports to Word/Text in frames.  Is there any way around that?

Thanks

One more question - in my original design I had a subreport (suba) in what is now my subreport(subb).  The original report worked fine, displayed all the data as expected.  When I removed subreport suba from what is now my subreport (subb), and added group footer sections in subb for the data that I was getting in suba, my detail section data is now displaying some data in duplicate.  Do you know what could be causing that?

Thanks Again

Don't really know about the exporting. I do not do it too much. We deploy our reports through a built in web interface into a shared DB system. There a re a number of ways to deploy reports that may be more useful but i am in no way an expert on that. Check around on this site as it gets asked a lot, however the answers are usually vague due to the unique environments that people have. Check out this site to for more info

As for duplicate data it usually has to do with the tables and joins. One table has 2 rows on a join and is doubling your rows.
