Having a problem in my main report and sub-report where I have a field used for selection criteria (shift)-----both reports need to select the same value from the main.   Any help???  I looked at shared variables but have not been able to get this to work.
thanks jeff

Yeah, I just got done writing about this in my subreport chapter. I assume that you are using a parameter to set which data to filter on? In the Subreport Links dialog box (right-click on the subreport object and choose Set Subreport Links), for the main report select the parameter that the user enters. For the link field in the bottom left hand corner of the subreport, choose the EXISTING parameter that is used in the records selection formula for the subreport. Crystal Reports will want to create a new parameter for you and put it in that link box, but just ignore it and click the dropdown list to pick the existing parameter. By choosing the existing parameter then your subreport automatically links to the main report's parameter.
