I've just completed my first Crystal X report for use in our accounting software (Sage Timberline).  It's a simple report showing a list of construction projects in our data base.  The job ID is formatted as "xx-yy-zzzzz" and I've created parameters that prompt the user to select ranges off of each section of the ID.  The parameters are discrete values that cannot be modified.  The report works successfully, but I would like the description to appear next to the value in the drop down list on the report prompt screen (to help the user choose the discrete value if he/she cannot remember the code definitions).  The description does not display despite choosing "value and discription" in the display setting on the parameter Set Default Values window.  Is there a setting in Crystal that I missed that will allow me to accomplish this task, or could there be a coding issue within Timberline when it was upgraded to be Crystal compatable which is filtering out the description field?

There isn't much more you can do besides choosing the 'Value and Description' option. Do you have the description field specified as well? If so, then maybe there is a disconnect between the Sage. I would try creating another report that only has a single parameter and description field and testing that out. I have a tutorial in the free portion of my online chapters that should help you out.

I'm not refering to the description field in Sage.  I used the Set Description button on the Set Default Values window and created a "custom" description for the parameter value I entered (for example:  The value "10" was entered, I pointed it to the section on the right, and I set the description as "MBI".  When I run the Sage report within Sage, the parameter drop down box properly appears, with the 3 values I set up, but none of them have the "custom" description I typed in.  Having that description would help the user).

It sounds like this is a Sage problem then. You've done everything right but it's not coming across in your app. This is a pretty common task, so maybe you should call them and harrass them about why they don't have this working? You would think that they would want to fix a problem like this b/c others will have the same issue.
