    Posted: 06 Aug 2007 at 12:15am
Hi,

I'm a newbie to Crystals so please bear with me.
I want to create a summary report which shows previous year and current year as columns. Tried to use crosstab but it seems a bit restricted so I stick with standard report.

I'm trying to create a store procedure which gives me back the data, and I want the first row to display the information for current year and the second row for previous year.

I can get the data in "Browse Field Data" and find the two records but I am not able to display the second row data.

In Reporting Service, you can do index on the field which has the syntax{CountMan}[0] and gives you back the first element of the recordset, was wondering if Crystal can do that as well?

Thanks for the help
Cheers,
Josh

This is a bit tricky because you do need to use the cross-tab. Yes, it is restrictive, but I don't know what problems you are having, so I can't comment on that.

Crystal can't reference specific elements of the recordset. However, to simulate a cross-tab you could insert a Detail section to give you two sections. Then position the field in a different column for each section. Put a Suppress conditional formula on each Detail section which checks to see if it is this year or last year and suppress the appropriate section.

Unfortunately, since you are a newbie, I'm not sure how much of this makes sense. Creating multiple Detail sections and using the conditional formatting is a bit intermediate. But if you've used RS then you are probably used to manipulating report objects and sections. Let me know.

Why did you move from RS to CR?

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the prompt reply. You are right, it seems a bit difficult for me. Would you mind pointing me to some good reference on this? Basically, when I create a cross-tab, I can't put anything in the Detail section. It is greyed out. Can you give me some more detail how to do that?

I have another question regarding cross-tab. I want to create the following report:

                            Current   Inactive    Non current
Org 1                      1                4              3
Org 2                      1                0              1
Total                        2              4             4
Prop of Total           20%          40%       40%

I cannot get the Prop of Total since the grand total can only be one field?
I tried to add a percentage on the Summarized Field, but then each organisation will include a percentage as well. But my requirement is to have a propotion under the grand total. Any workaround?

Thanks again,
Joshua

Read the chapters I have online for free. Chapter 4 covers record selection filters and Chapter 10 explains cross-tabs. There is a lot of material that will explain CR XI and how to do this.

ThanksWink,

Would you mind giving me some advise on the question about the Prop of Total. I tried to read the book but doesn't seem to give an answer.

I'm not sure how to handle it myself. I would need the data to play with it. I would create a group on the outside field and then disable the interier subtotals. CR lets turn subtotals on and off for different areas.
