I have set up a report that groups by Vendor name.  However, the names are created by different people and sometimes there are variations in the name referring to the same vendor.  i've been asked to group all these variations into one "Main" vendor name.  i'm not quite sure how to do this.  i tried setting up a group formula with a selection criteria that basically says, if vendor name equals any of these names, then the vendor name equals "this name" but i am not able to see the details for each individual name in the group...

any ideas on how to resolve this?

thanks so much...

If there are many variations, then your best bet is to have a look-up table in the database that consolidates them and translates them.  That's not always possible, though.  Be prepared to update your formula as new vendors are created.

In your report, you can group by your formula to get all of a vendor's records together and then by the actual vendor name from the data in order to see the details for each individual name.

"Fixing" this in Crystal reports is going to be "challenging" and likely to cause an administrative nightmare.

If you can change the source system to include a "Report Name" field and use that in your report. That way users can keep it updated themselves and you can get on with more interesting stuff ;)

Hi Jasey,

as you said, i'm thinking this won't work in Crystal and have been discussing with our Accting software programmer on how to add a field there before bringing it into crystal.

thanks for the input!!
