    Posted: 13 Sep 2007 at 3:06am

Hello !

I've got a big problem when my .Net 1.1 program (using CRXI R2) is deployed on Windows Vista.

CRXI R2 SP 2 deployment on the client machine is done with the latest merge module (15/08/2007) in a Visual Studio 2003 deployment project.

But when the "ReportDocument" class constructor is called, Vista's Data Execution Prevention (DEP) stops the program .

If I switch DEP off everything works fine.

I tried several samples found on Business Objects website , and DEP blocks these programs as well.

I 've understood that R2 SP2 had Vista compatibility, am I wrong ?

Does someone know how to solve this problem ?

Thanks in advance

What type of .Net 1.1 program?  WinForms?  ASP.NET?.  Have you installed the latest merge modules on your development machine so that you're developing with them in addition to deploying with them?  Is .Net 1.1 compatible with DEP?

I may be wrong, but I suspect that your problem is not with the Crystal assemblies as such, but possibly with the earlier version of .Net which I don't think was designed to run on Vista.

Thanks for your answer !

It is a Winforms Program, and the latest version of CR XI R2 is installed on my development machine (released 08/2007.

.Net 1.1 wasn't firstly compatible with DEP but some hotfixes have been released and are supposed to fix it (I don't have any other problems with my program on vista with DEP on)

I hate to say it, but you may have to open a support case with BusinessObjects on this one....

Brian, do you have any thoughts on this?

I don't know. Vista is such a confusing beast. I just bought a new laptop and I opted to get XP installed on it instead of Vista. I have no desire to fight those battles and have software that stops working for no reason. I know a woman who does government contract work and they have a lot of Vista computers. She says it has compatibility issues with lots of their software.

Anyway, if you called BOBJ and put in a support ticket, don't be surprised if they say its not their issue and that its a Vista config problem. Again, I can't say since I don't have Vista installed. But I would be ready to pay the price for the support call and if they later refund it then just consider it a bonus.

I found a way to solve the problem, the Microsoft Compatibility toolkit contains a tool "Compatibility administrator" .

It can create some .sdb files where u can specify some running options for an exe such as the compatibility mode or disabling DEP.... that's what I'm going to use ...

Anyway thanks a lot for your answers !
