Hi guys, is this possible?

We have an existing installation of Crystal Reports 8.5 installed onto one of our Citrix servers. The staff that use it create their reports on it and all is well.

Now they want to upgrade to Crystal Reports XI but want to keep the older 8.5 installation.

As this is a key production server, i'm reluctant to install 2 version of Crystal Reports on the same server because I hear that creates a load of problems?

Can someone assist here? Is that correct? Will different versions of Crystal Reports sit on the same server as each other happily?

Or not... ;-)

Cheers

This is VERY tricky and you are correct in being cautious. I've talked to BOBJ about similar scenarios and in the past few versions they've worked very hard to eliminate DLL conflicts. The "official" statement is that they've eliminated all DLL conflicts and allow side-by-side installations now. Plus, CR 8.5 is a bit old and CR XI has lots of new libraries. But I've seen posts that there are still a couple DLLs that can cause problems if you need to use them. Since this is a production server I would proceed cautiously as you are doing. Can you recreate the environment on test box and see how it goes?
