As this is my very first post on this forum I would like to welcome everyone in the first placeSmile

I have a following issue and perhaps the forumhood can help me a bit crack it!

I am looking for a third party software that would allow user to modify a shape of the report without a possibility of damaging data cause QA would not be happy...

For instance there is a report and the user would like to rearrange columns, perhaps adjust their width, perhaps delete some fields but not modify the content of the fields.

Has anything like that been developed? Do you have any experience in dealing with similar issues? Or perhaps do you fancy doing that soft and making some money out of it? Big smile

Thanks in advance for all the advice you can give!

best regards

Welcome to the forum!

Personally, I haven't seen any tools like this. I think that the BOJB enterprise software has a similar offering, but this is incredibly expensive if you're just looking for a reasonable third-party tool. Also, I know that the CR licensing is very restrictive about not allowing other parties write tools which replace the functionality of the CR software. Some other people may know about such a tool that they can recommend, but I have never seen it.

Hi BrianBischof,

Thanks for all the info. That's helpful and it explains why I could not locate anything like it!

What is this BOJB ? Googling for 'BOJB enterprise software' returns me 'JBuilder 9 Essentials Training
BOJB-102' which is not what is on your mind, isn't it?

The cost of a software is not so much for an issue like a restriction  that the user could not modify the data. Case you could always export the report to the PDF and then Adobe Acrobat it. But then no QA team would validate such a report :/

Thanks!

edit...

ok - that was silly!
Business Objects = BOJB :P yeah... that is a 'bit' too expensive for the customer to follow that path ;) thanks anyway!!!
