Crystal will only work with 32-bit data sources.  So, even though you're using 64-bit Windows, you need to install the 32-bit database drivers for SQL Server.  Also, if you're using an ODBC connection, it needs to be set up using the 32-bit ODBC Administrator.  To get to this, run the following:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

Hi thank you Very much Dell. I tried to install 32 bit sql version.failed without a luck. it is not ODBC connection either. i use SQL connection string. i should say i can connect to sql server without a problem and all tables and stuff i can do with SQL 2005. all applications that run with crystal reports 8.5 gives me this error. any idea?

Crystal 8.5 was never designed to run on a 64-bit operating system - it's over 12 years old.  If it will work at all, you have to have the 32-bit database driver.

There is no 64-bit version of Crystal 8.5!! Have you tried at all to set up the 32-bit data drivers?

Crystal still needs a 32-bit data connection and, no, Crystal Designer is NOT 64-bit.
