Hi there,

I just thought I would throw it out there to see if anyone else has come across this problem.

When I drag and drop fields from the field explorer to the report the whole application just freezes. Then an error message says Crystal Reports has stopped working - Windows is checking for a solution. Once you press the cancel option [the only option] the application shuts down.

I am running CR 2008 and have un-installed re-installed 3 times with no luck.

It happens across various scenarios but the simplest example is that when I build a new report with the CR Wizard it creates the report ok. I then go to  the design view and select another field to add into the report.... thats when all hell break loose!!!

Any suggestion would be great.

Thanks KR

Not sure, but I would guess it was corruption with the OS,  conflict with another application or not enough memory.

I have been using it for a few months now, and it has been very stable so far.

Thanks for the reply.... yeah I also thought that it may be something wrong in the bowels of windows, but thought I would check before undertaking an OS re-install.

Thanks,

Here it is Feb 2012 and I am using Crystal Reports 10 on Windows 7 64-bit. I get this same error:
When I drag and drop fields from the field explorer to the report the whole application just freezes. Then an error message says Crystal Reports has stopped working - Windows is checking for a solution. Once you press the cancel option [the only option] the application shuts down. (and re-installing does not help!)
We are maintaining older software. Anyone have an idea for how to resolve this error? Thanks!

Smile Great news! I found a fix that worked for Windows 7 and Crystal Reports 10, when Crystal Reports stops working after trying to install a field.

First I did this, but it did not resolve the problem (including it here because it may have contributed):
You have to go to the System properties applet in Control Panel, click on the Data Execution Prevention tab, and turn off Data Execution Prevention for Crystal Reports. <then I restarted the computer and tried again>

Here is what finally worked: I set Compatibility mode on "crw32.exe" to Windows XP (Service Pack 3). Right-click on C:\Program Files (x86)\Crystal Decisions\Crystal Reports 10\crw32.exe (or wherever crw32.exe is installed). Select Properties, Compatibility tab. Check the Compatibility mode box and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" and click Apply.
Eureka!!!
