Is there a function i can use to display the products that have order dates next to them 10/08/10, all other product have --/--/--, at the moment all products are displayed rather than just the one with dates.

if the date is a string, you can conditionally suppress items/bands by using a formula like:
{table.dateField} = "--/--/--"
this would go most likely in section expert as it sounds like you want to hide an entire row of data.
