When programmatically exporting a CR to Excel the file created has extra blank cells, rows and columns. Does any one know how to export to an Excel file without these extra blanks? I have read some where that there is an "extended excel" format that produces a proper excel file but I don't know how to code it.
Also when I export to a pdf file the file created loses all the unicode formats, eg Chinese characters appear as rubbish. Anyone has ideas why this happens?
I am using Visual Studio .Net 2003

.NET 2003 doesn't have the new export features in CR XI. However, Excel exports get botched when things aren't lined up perfectly. It's very difficult to send report objects to a spreadsheet if it doesn't already look like a bunch of straight rows and columns. It also helps to use the guidelines and make everything snap to them. This helps keep them lined up.

Re the Chinese characters, I don't know about that.

My general rule of thumb when creating a report that I know is going to be exported to Excel is to align the left sides of the data and the column label and then to make them both the same size.  I do this by clicking on the data field, then shift-click on the column label and use the right-click menu that has options for align and size.
