In a formula you can use: ToText({datefield}, 'MMddyyyy')
To Format the field without a formula:
1. Right-click on the date and select Format...
2. On the Date tab, click on the Customize button.
3. Under "Format", change the Month and Day to have leading 0's.
4. Under "Order", select "MDY".
5. Under "Separators", change First and Second to "none".
