Hi,

Is there a way to have Crystal generate an autonumber field like Access does?

Say I have 5 records displaying in my report.  I want to add a field which will automatically assign 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 to each record.  Another thing to mention is that I am using the group footer as my data - so I couldnt use it in the detail section.  Maybe like a count of groups or something??
I ultimately have to export the data to excel after everything - but the numbering already has to be there.

Thanks
John

Use a Running Total.
Exactly how to set it up depends on your data and your grouping.
Likely (this is an educated guess only) you can set it as:

Name= AutoNumber
Field to summarize= Same field you grouped on
Type=Count
Evaluate on change of group (select group level you are palcing it on
Reset=Never
Place on your group footer

That is exactly what I was looking for!  It worked.  Thanks!!!
