There is no backward compatibility - you can't save as an earlier version.  Sorry!

Del is correct about the not being able to save as feature.

However, it is my understanding there is some built in compatibility. My understanding (Del or someone please correct me if this is incorrect), is that reports created in CRXI can be opened in versions as early as 9 and CR2008 in version 10. What I believe you cannot do is readily edit the later version in the earlier version.  So it may depend on what you want to do with the earlier version.

XI reports can be opened in 9 or 10 as long as none of the new features in XI have been used.  The same holds true or opening 2008 reports in XI (not sure about 10).   However, the format of things in the .rpt file went through MAJOR changes at version 9, so there is no way to convert .rpts that were designed in 9 or later so that they'll open in 8.5 or earlier.
