    Posted: 22 Dec 2008 at 8:01am
Hi,

I am designing the crystal report in VS.Net 2005.

I want to suppress the text fields at run time.

So i am suppressing it by writing the supress formula for each field.

But after suppress it is creating blank line or space.

I have tried to remove that by setting the "Suppress Embeded Blank Lines" on text object's common property window.

Still it is showing the blank space when i view the report preview.

Thanks in advance, waiting for your valuable solution

Are you always suppressing the text field or only sometimes?  If always, then just take it off of the report.

Are all of the text fields in their own section? If there are no labels, turn on "Suppress blank section" in the section expert.

Is this a long text field (i.e., a memo field) or a short one?  How tall is it in the section?  If it's tall (more than one line) you can shorten it to one line and turn on Can Grow.  If you don't and you can't turn on Suppress blank section, then the section will be at least as tall as the field is even if the field isn't printing.

Actually I don't want to show the empty space created after suppressing the text field.

Eor Example my report has design as below

     Property1        Value1
     Property2        Value2
     Property3        Value3

In this case if I suppress "Property2" and "Value2" fields, it shows the blank line between first and third line.

All the above data are individual data and not the repeating data.

Thanks,

Ok, this is not difficult.

Put of your rows in a separate section - since this is not repeating detail data, I assume that it's in a group header or footer section, so you just right-click in the grey area to the left where the sections are defined and select "Insert Section Below".  Move your fields, keeping the suppress formulas.  Then go to the Section Expert and turn on "Suppress Blank Section" for each of them.

I use this technique for addresses where there may or may not be an second address line.

Thanks for the solution.

Can i get solution if my report have two fields in single line and i want to suppress one of the field.

Otherwise my report will get quite long if i show single field in each horizontal section as i have to show large amount of data.

Thanks,

This only works vertically.  For your Property/Value pairs, there should be no problem because I would assume if the property is blank, the value is as well.

However, if you were to put Property1/Value1 and Property2/Value2 in the same row, there's no easy way move the Property2 pair to the left if the Property1 pair is blank.

How many of these do you have?
