    Posted: 16 Mar 2009 at 11:47am
Hi,

Hope this is something simple I am missing. Did a search here but didn't see this...

I am connecting to a SQL Server 2005 DB via OLEDB in Crystal Reports XI. I can connect, see the tables and add through the Databse Expert. However, when I click on the Link tab there is nothing there except the opening dialogue saying I need to link etc. No table diagrams etc. If I exit. I can see and use the tables in the report but obviously they are not linked.

Am I doing something wrong? Missing a setting? I have used Crystal before with other databases and didn't have a problem.

Thanks for any help including "dummy you need to...."

Dumb questions - Have you expanded the Database expert dialog and scrolled through to make sure the tables aren't just out of view in the dialog?

Also, which version of Crystal XI are you using?  Have you applied any service packs or fix packs?

Dell

No such thing as a dumb question, just dumb people lol! To answer your questions....

1) No I can see the entire tab. It is blank, not even a window inside (white area where tables would appear). All I have is statement at top "Linking is needed to match records of one table with corresponding records of another table." followed by the Open, Cancel, Help at the bottom.

2) If I close then get the message "Your current link configuration contains multiple starting points etc....."

3) Version is 11.0.0.2269 which is not R2 but does have SP2 applied.

Would it be possible to upgrade to R2?

I've just tested here - XI R2 sp3 and I don't have this issue.

In the long term possibly but not in the short term for a variety of reasons. I get the impression from viewing other posts that this is probably not a common problem so may just be something totally unique to this installation. I guess I could create a query and report off of that.

What I am trying to do is demo reporting off of the Data Warehouse. I am using Crystal because our customers have it. The demo does not go into the mechanics of creating the actual report so if I get there some other way that is ok for now. Course if someone asks how did you do that....

Thanks for the help. Possibly someone else may have encountered this and will chime in.

Should have tried this before... But I tried doing a Btrieve connection and same problem. Btrieve has always worked before. This is a new installation so it may just be a bad install. I am going to reinstall and see what happens....
