Topic: PDF Export Fine, Problems with Printed Version Posted: 06 Feb 2007 at 5:54am |
My report contains several sub-reports, each of which contains a list of fields/items with a border at the bottom of each item. The fields "can grow".
When I export the report as a PDF document, it looks just the way I want. However, when I print it, I only see the lines (bottom border) for the items, the text is missing. All other data is complete.
I find this very weird as everything looks good in the PDF file and the lines are there! So even the correct number of items is printed, only the text is missing...

GroennDemon :
I think I read about this in Brian's book.
If you print from browser, the rpt will look unprofessional. If you print from viewer, it renders the rpt as you see it.

Yes, it's an HTML problem. I would try resizing objects and try replacing the border with line objects. When exporting to HTML you have to play around with the report and continously test. Also, make sure you have the latest service pack installed. They are always fixing quirks like this in the service packs.

I've figured it out myself:
The margins between some elements were too small. PDF export worked like a charm, but as soon as I printed it, the contents were gone. Obviously the printing engine somehow thought there wasn't being enough space.
Increasing the margins helped.

I feel your pain.
I'm working on VS 2003 CR9 issue w/ legacy application where nobody seems to know how it was built. It was, & still is, an experience.
Good luck!
