Topic: How can I make Crystal reports prompt on open? Posted: 25 Jul 2010 at 11:20pm |
I need to make a report I have created prompt the user for parameters when it is opened, instead of viewing previous data then having to refresh the report. Is there a way it can refresh when opened? Or is there another way of doing this?
Any help would be appreciated.

I have already tried that, but what I want is for the report to automatically prompt the user on open without the need to manually refresh, is that not possible?

make it so it does not save the data with the report (above link),
resave the report (with no data)
have the user open this version and it should always prompt

It doesn't though when the report loads it just shows the design view and I have to press F5 to refresh which I had to do even when it was saving the data. I am currently on a trial version of crystal reports that I downloaded only a few days ago. Any ideas as to why it does not work?

How are you planning on deploying your reports?

Clients should be prompted on opening the report, requiring them to enter the ID number of the report they want, then be able to view the report and print it. Using the select sort to filter out any records without that ID.

But are you running full crystal for them, crystal viewer, some other deployment?
When you are in crystal designer you have to hit F5 to run the report but if you are having them run it via crystal viewer it should just come up with the param prompt.
