If my report is set up with fields 1,2,3,4,5,6 all sized to my wishes, etc - what can I do if I decide to move field 4 before field 3?  Do I just stick 3 somewhere, move 4 over, and hope I left enough space when 3 goes back in?  I can't seem to insert the field as with Word which makes enough space automatically.

if you are referring to horizontal placement there is no automatic spacing. You can set the grid size and use snap to grid and vertical guidelines to assist in the placement.

if you want to do it dynamically at run time you can create a formula using the x-2 button on the size/position for the object (CR XI +).

Only caveat, the units are in twips where 1440 = 1 inch.

Thanks for the information.  I should have said we are using version 10 but I'll keep it in mind.
