On the File menu go to Options.  Select the fields tab.  Click on the button for each field type and set Can Grow to whatever you want the default to be for that field type.  This will then affect any fields that you place in reports AFTER you make the change - it will NOT affect fields that are already in place.  Those you will have to individually edit.

I deleted the fields, reset Can Grow under Options - Fields - Currency. Put fields back onto report, went back to Format Fields >> Can Grow still in Default mode, can't select ??
