Quote newbie Replybullet Topic: Parameter in Command, Crystal prompts twice
    Posted: 21 Sep 2007 at 9:47am
Hello,

I created two date parameters in Command (Crystal XI) and they are part of the command.

When I run the report, The Command is prompting for the values of the parameters specified in that command.  Once I fill the values, while running the report, it is again asking to enter values for the same parameters.

I would like to show the parameters one time only.  how to do this?

One more thing, these parameters are attached to report to display the values.(Example:- FROM  {?Parameter1_date} TO {?paramter2_date})

Its urgent.  Plz Help me.

Thanks

Are you using a subreport? I see this when linking the parameter to a subreport. If so, you need to link via parameter in the subreport and not select the default parameter that CR wants to create for you.

Thanks for your reply.

There is no subreport in the main report.  It is just like this.

select order_num
from  orders
where order_date between {?start_date} and {?end_date}

These two parameter values has to be displayed on each page of the report.

Thanks

I don't get it. When do you get prompted? Is it for each new page? Maybe there is a formula that uses the fields and is causing it to be prompted a second time?

Sorry for the confusion.  Not on each page.

There is a Dynamic parameter based on the data columns of the Command.  The Command is set with the Date Parameter values.

The first time it is asking for the date parameters values to complete the Command for checking the Query errors.  After the query results from the Database and the parameter screen appears with Dynamic parameters along with Date parameters(Command).  So the Command Date Parameters asking second time to enter the values.

Thanx

I see. You're using the same parameters for two different purposes and it is prompting you for the parameters each time. I'm not sure how to fix this. One idea is to make this a subreport of a blank main report. The blank main report will get the prompts and then pass them to the subreport which can use them in the query and command objects.
