Brian,

First let me say I have found your text very informative and valuable.

Unfortunately, I am working a project that requires conversion of existing Crystal Reports TO Reporting Services. While on this project, we've run into many shortcomings of the Reporting Services software. We've blew our Scope and critical path wasting time for workarounds and alternatives that the tool just doesn't seem to have.

If you have a minute, could you comment or provide advice on a few of the issues we've encountered?

- The editor in MRS is almost worthless. No Search, Line numbers or ability to change font size,  AND there seems to be a limitation on the size of your code thats used for embeded code projects. We reached a point where we cannot add any more functions for a fairly complex report.

- No tools are available ( grayed out in tool bar) for the query designer such as commenting whole segments of SQL.

- Cannot sum on a table's group field from a group footer expression  without using a goofy scheme of collections and sub totals.

Am I this stupid or do these things pose obstacles to others?

Thanks,

Hi Scott,

Sorry to hear that your management got sucked in by the Microsoft Marketing Machine. However, you're not alone. As you can see from the following link, MS is having so many complaints about SSRS that they are rewriting parts of the tool. Clearly, there are major problems in the software's design.

SSRS being rewritten
