I have VS 2008 and am trying to add CR 2008 form. I add a new form then a Crystal Report is form. When clicking on the cr form, an error message says Microsoft VS needs to close.

It is possible, however, to create an external report and import it. but the imported must be edited externally. If an attempt to modify the report within VS 2008, the same message appears.

How to resolve? Thank you.

Did you install CR 2008 before or after VS 2008?  CR needs to be install AFTER VS.

Uninstalled cr2008 and then re-installed. That worked. However, it is counter intuitive and counter intelligent. If cr2008 is installed first because there is not vs2008, then why would anyone imagine to uninstall a stand alone program before installing another program? No logic there.

Thanks for your help.

This is because VS 2008 comes with components from Crystal 10 - its install doesn't look for Crystal 2008.  In order for the Crystal 2008 components to be installed in VS 2008, the Crystal install has to register them.  So really it's a VS issue, not a problem with Crystal.
