I am placing an order for the Crystal Reports XI Encyclopedia book today.  I would like to ask more of an advice question.

I use Crystal Reports to create Reports off the same Data Set and Data Range.  We are using an archaic HelpDesk System so the same Data is presented in several ways.

How many requests were opened by my Level 1
How many requests were closed by my Level 2
How long did it take to close Requests, etc etc.

I accomplished this using 7 Subreports, this makes lining up data and fields and field sizes insane!

Since I have discovered Running Totals and how they work I figured now I can dump ALL of these reports into one master report.

Pull the Data Set into a hidden section and then use Running Totals to pull different presentations of the same data.

HERE IS MY QUESTION

I have always struggled to get the Fields Lined up and the Fields to be the same size to make the reports look pristing.

I have tried veritical guides and snap to grids, but there has to be a better way.  In the end I may be creating 80 or so running fields to get what I want to so I want it to be good from the beginning.

How do you guys get the data fields to be the same size?

Get one field to be the size you want it.  Select all of the fields that you want to be the same size, including the one that you've set the size on.  Right-click on the one that's the right size and select Size and then whatever option you want - height, width, or size.

Can you tell me how the following relates to aligning data?  How do you "dump all of the reports into 1 master report"?  Is the "hidden section" the subreports?  ~Bet you couldn't guess I'm confused :-(

"Since I have discovered Running Totals and how they work I figured now I can dump ALL of these reports into one master report.    Pull the Data Set into a hidden section and then use Running Totals to pull different presentations of the same data."?

I have following report:

Column1           Column2
Field A:              This is the string for field A.
Field B:             This is the string for B.1
This is the string for B.2
Field C:             blah blah blah C.1
                          blah blah blah C.2
                          blah blah blah C.3
Field D:              This is the string for field D.
Field E:              This is the string for field E.

Field B & C are in a subreport; how do I align the labels "Field B:" & "Field C:" with Fields A, D, & E.  I don't want to size.  I want the labels in Column1 to be perfectly aligned at the left with each other & the data strings in Column2 to be left justified.

The labels for B & C must be embedded in the subreports.

Would really be grateful if you could help me out!

You could try this:

1.  Right click on one of your fields in column 1 in the main report and select "Size and Position".  Note what the number is for X (horizontal location).

2.  Do the same for a field in column 2.

3.  Right click on the subreport, select Size and Position and set the X value to 0.

4.  Edit the subreport.  Under Size and Position for the fields in columns 1 and 2, set the X location to the values that you found in steps 1 and 2.

You may still have to tweak positions by a pixel or two, but this should get you close.
