Hello, my company makes several different reports for our program, normally tailored to our client's needs. I was wondering if it was possible to make a single report with just a header and then rip it to new reports so it was uniform for everything we make, and what would be the easiest way to accomplish that?

Thank you in advance.

Are you thinking of a template?  If so, you can take the 'template' of what you want to start with and save it where the other templates are stored.  Then when you start a new report, you can use the template as your base report.  It's what I do.

Is this what you are looking for?

Hi lockwelle,

I use crystal report.net (in visual studio 2005/2008), can I create a template there? If so, could write a tip of how to do it.

Thanks in advance!

I use CR XI, I don't remember the path, but it isn't too hard to find.  Go to the report/template expert, look at one of the files and do a search for it.

Templates aren't too smart.  They will pretty much overwrite your report, if you have started it, but they give a great starting point if you always lay out the report the same way.

Mine has where the title goes, and the footer information.  It just cuts down on that repeative typing, that really doesn't change.

Just create a report skeleton that you will use, then save it in the same directory as the template that you found.  Next time you go to the template expert, there is your template.
