I had a report that looked good and then we decided
to filter it down by saying show me only the items
that are older than 30 days. This filters the data
nicely but the total is wrong since it is adding up
all them items and not just the ones we asked for.

How do you fix this?

Item #1 25 on hand for 28 days
Item #2 15 on hand for 32 days
Item #3 20 on hand for 40 days.
Total 60

Set the group select filter to show only items
where on hand number of days is 30 or more and you
now get:

Item #2 15 on hand for 32 days
Item #3 20 on hand for 40 days.
Total 60

How do you get the total to come out right?
